It is a common misconception that diabetics should not snack around. Actually, healthy diabetic snack foods are essential to a good diabetic diet. What people usually consider to be ‘snacks’ are foods like chips or candy bars, which have high amounts of sugar or fat contents. Healthy snacks, like carrots or raisins for example, can contribute to a diabetic diet because they curb hunger and help to boost your energy level throughout the day. Some examples of healthy diabetic snack foods are:

  • Celery
  • Tomatoes
  • A hard-boiled egg
  • Fresh blueberries
  • A sugar-free Popsicle
  • Light popcorn
  • String Cheese
  • Gold-fish cracers
  • Saltine crackers
  • Whole-wheat tortillas
  • Strawberries
  • Avocado
  • Bell Peppers
  • Whole-wheat crackers
  • Almonds or other nuts

Best Diabetic Snack Foods

Some of the best diabetic snack foods are salads because they have low amounts of carbohydrates and provide many of the essential nutrients that your body needs. In addition, they are versatile and, as long as you avoid too many fattening ingredients like too much salad dressing, you can really eat as much as you want to without worry about your weight or blood sugar levels. Even fruit salads are a good choice when searching for diabetic snack foods. For this reason, a few good salad recipes are provided below:
