There are many ways to add exercise to your daily routine. If you currently lead a sedentary lifestyle, you can start by just adding 3 or 4 brisk 20 to 30 minute walks to your routine each week. This can be done during a lunch break or anytime during the day.

It is also a good idea to add more movement to your routine each day. Try things like taking the stairs instead of the elevator. If you have to walk to a different area in the office, take the long route. Park further from the front door so you have to walk further to get into the building. Walk to the store and to other venues that are relatively close to your location instead of driving. For instance, if you need to run to the grocery store and it is less than a mile from your house, walk there.

It is also a good idea to purchase a pedometer to monitor the number of steps you take each day. It is recommended that you take 10,000 steps per day. You might be surprised to find out that you are only taking 2,000 to 3,000 steps per day. Make an effort to increase your number of steps by just 500 each day, until you make it to 10,000 steps per day consistently.
