Does Stress Cause Diabetes Blood Sugar To Rise?

Stress does cause blood sugar levels to rise both in diabetics and non-diabetics. The way this happens is even understood. Stress hormones such as epinephrine and cortisols are released in large amounts because their main function is to raise the blood sugar to help boost your energy level when the body needs it most. It is hard to fight off danger and react when your blood sugar is low. These hormones kick in to raise blood sugar to give energy to fight off the danger that stress makes the body perceive.

So does stress cause diabetes blood sugar to rise? It does- because in normal people the body will react by releasing insulin and reacting to lower the blood sugar levels to safe levels once the perceived danger is gone. Diabetics can’t do this. Their blood sugar remains high because they lack the ability to lower it without medication.

Does Stress Cause Diabetes Patients to Lose Control of Their Management Routines?

It seems that stress does cause diabetics to lose control of their disease in a couple ways. Think of your own reaction to stress if you’re not diabetic. It zaps your energy. When you don’t feel energetic, you will be less likely to exercise. Exercise is an important way to manage diabetes, both in conventional and natural treatment regimens. So lack of exercise will make the diabetic give up one of their best defenses to fight diabetes.

Another reaction to stress is loss of appetite. This leads to binge snacking or just a poor diet. Either one of these is not good for the diabetic following either a natural or conventional medical treatment course.  This vicious cycle of stress, tiredness, skipping an exercise, skipping a meal, eating poorly, etc just feeds on itself. If you don’t get the stress under control, you will find you blood sugar levels at out of control levels and that is when the real damage of diabetes begins to damage your organs, eyesight, and eventually, your life. So does stress cause diabetes to get worse? You bet it does. And it happens in a way you don’t notice. It is imperative that you learn to manage undue stress in your life and do it without delay.
