For those interested in attending a metabolic syndrome conference, there are several conferences and congresses for health care professionals. Most blend aspects of the many factors that cause metabolic syndrome, touching on many different medical disciplines.

The 2nd International Conference on Pre-Hypertension and Cardio-Metabolic Syndrome will take place in February of 2013 in Barcelona, Spain. The association of pre-hypertension in metabolic syndrome and its components (obesity, glucose intolerance, and dislypidemia) and the increased risk of cardiovascular complications make it an important subject in the discussion of metabolic syndrome. Additionally, the possibility of drug interactions with hypertension and glucose tolerance make the inclusion of pre-hypertension and hypertension essential in treatment and prevention of metabolic syndrome. Pre-hypertension is defined as systolic and diastolic blood pressure of 120-139 mm Hg and 85-89 mm Hg. The metabolic syndrome conference will deal with material related to early diagnosis, innovation in treatments and technologies from the fields of hypertension, nephrology, endocrinology, internal medicine, and cardiology. Within these fields topics will include the roles of genetics and environmental factors in the development of cardiovascular disease, epidemiology, policy, drug and other therapies, and more.

Metabolic Syndrome Conference – U.K.

HEART UK will hold its 26th Annual Conference on “Metabolic Syndrome, Obesity, and Pre-Diabetes”. HEART UK, The Cholesterol Charity, is a United Kingdom based charitable organization dedicated to the prevention of premature deaths due to high cholesterol and heart disease. Their conference will take place in June of 2012 in Newcastle upon Tyne in the U.K. The metabolic conference will focus on lipids, atherosclerosis, cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, and nutrition. Unlike other events, the HEART UK metabolic conference is open to medical practitioners, scientist, students, and patients. Lecturers will be both national and international, exploring intervention strategies across medical fields.

Metabolic Syndrome Conference – Region Specific

The prevalence of obesity and its complications are increasing in Asia and in Australia. Australia has seen a 250% increase in obesity since 2008 and cardiovascular disease is now the leading cause of death. The second Asia Pacific Conference on the Metabolic Syndrome (APCMS), sponsored by the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute, was November 4-5 in 2011 in Sydney Australia.  professionals from their Specialist Diabetes Clinic, the largest dedicated facility in Australia, constituted a large portion of the conference speakers, providing clinical insight into treatment and prevention practices in Australia. Through the demonstration of multidisciplinary best practices and sharing of the newest clinical and scientific data, the goal of the metabolic syndrome conference is to “guide and improve understanding, prevention, treatment, and outcomes of the metabolic syndrome”. The next APCMS metabolic syndrome conference dates have not been announced.
