JDRF is the largest charitable donor to type 1 diabetes research. The JDRF Walk is one such fundraising event to benefit cure-based research. JDRF research takes an innovative approach, accelerating promising leads, conducting clinical trials, and collaborating with other organizations. By participating in the JDRF Walk people can join in a healthy team activity and while fundraising for type 1 diabetes research. Fundraising support is given to all participants, including how to write a sponsor letter, fundraising ideas, and how to involve your employer or corporation. JDRF makes it simple for donors who would like to donate to a walker. Anyone can visit the JDRF website, enter a walker’s name and make a donation.

JDRF Walk also has the added benefit of drawing attention to the diabetic cause, the number of people who suffer from the disease, and the research being done to cure type 1 diabetes. Many diabetics and their family members choose to walk, calling on their friends, co-workers, neighbors, neighborhood associations, and more to donate.

JRDF Ride

The JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes is another fundraising event for individuals and groups to support the research efforts of JDRF. A greater physical and fundraising challenge than the JDRF Walk, the JDRF Ride is a destination event with a set fundraising minimum (packages start at $2,000). Riders are given fundraising support as well as training with certified USA Cycling coaches, safety seminars, excursions, and celebrations. Training programs are tailored to individual ability with courses available for varied experience levels. Local coaches help set goals, monitor progress, hold group trainings, give clinics on injury prevention, and bike maintenance. There are currently five locations available for rides in the U.S.: Death Valley, Burlington, La Crosse, Tahoe, and Tucson.

Riders can also be matched with JDRF Youth Ambassadors, young people from the community who are living with diabetes, who inspire riders through their training and during the event.

Events range from 5k’s to full marathons. Team JDRF uses Galloway Training Programs, employing the walk-run-walk method for a 98% completion rate. There are two options to participate: group and individual training. For those who are not near a training area or prefer to train alone, support is given through a Virtual Training Program includes a handbook, fundraising page, coach emails, coach conference calls, and incentive-based fundraising plans. In-person training plans include all of the aforementioned benefits as well as a subscription to Runner’s World, Galloway Training Program book, Galloway t-shirt, and Galloway training discounts.
